Tree Relocation & Transplanting

Arbor Tree and Landscape, Inc. relocates and transplants established trees and palms within a property or to a new site in Palm Beach County. Many mature trees can be moved instead of removed, depending on species, size, root condition, equipment access and the new planting site. Each tree is assessed in person first.

A tree in the wrong place doesn't automatically have to be lost. Arbor moves established trees and palms — across a property, out of the way of construction, or onto a new site. That applies on residential properties and on commercial sites where a build or a new plan puts a mature tree in the wrong place.

When relocation is worth considering

  • An addition, pool or driveway is going where the tree stands.
  • A palm or specimen tree has outgrown a courtyard or narrow bed.
  • Trees were planted too close together and are now competing.
  • A new landscape plan calls for existing material in a different position.
  • You want mature height immediately in a new area rather than a young nursery tree.

Not every tree is a candidate. We say no when the species, size or root condition makes the move unlikely to succeed, rather than take the job and hope.

How a relocation runs

  1. 1. Evaluate the tree

    Species, size, health, root condition and how much root ball we can realistically take.

  2. 2. Evaluate both sites

    Equipment access, overhead lines, and whether the receiving site drains and suits the species.

  1. 3. Prepare and lift

    Root ball cut and secured, canopy managed, and the tree lifted with appropriate equipment.

  2. 4. Replant and aftercare

    Set at correct depth, backfilled, supported where needed, with a watering plan handed over.

Relocation questions

Can mature trees really be relocated?

Many can. Success depends on species, trunk diameter, root condition, how much room there is to dig a proper root ball, equipment access and the quality of the new planting site. Palms generally transplant well; some broadleaf species are far more sensitive.

Is relocating cheaper than removing and replanting?

It depends on the tree. Moving a large specimen is skilled work, but buying and installing an equivalent mature tree is often more expensive — and you lose the character of the tree you already have.

What time of year is best to move a tree?

In South Florida the cooler, less stressful months are generally preferable, and irrigation afterwards matters more than the calendar. We plan the timing around the specific tree and the site.

What happens after the tree is moved?

Aftercare decides the outcome — staking where needed, watering schedule and reduced demands on the canopy while the root system re-establishes. We go over that before the move.
